Ways to Give Before December 31: Simple Options to Support Your Community

As the year comes to a close, many people in our region are thinking about how they can support the causes they care about most. Year-end giving is a tradition rooted in gratitude, generosity, and commitment to our neighbors. It is also a time when thoughtful planning can help your gift go farther.

Here are several ways you can support the community before December 31, depending on what works best for you and your family.

Give by check or online gift

A straightforward contribution is often the simplest way to support the organizations you value. Every gift, no matter the size, helps strengthen programs and services that build a thriving community.

Make a gift of appreciated stock

If you hold stock that has increased in value, donating it directly to charity can be a tax-efficient way to give. You may avoid capital gains tax and still claim a charitable deduction if you itemize. Our team can help guide you through this process and assist with transfers.

Contribute to a donor-advised fund

If you want to make a charitable gift now and recommend grants later, a donor-advised fund offers flexibility. It allows you to support multiple organizations over time while receiving a charitable deduction in the year you contribute.

Make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD)

If you are age 70½ or older, you can give directly from your IRA to certain charitable funds. This gift can count toward your required minimum distribution and may reduce taxable income. This can be a meaningful way to support the community while managing retirement assets responsibly.

Support long-term community needs

In addition to supporting favorite nonprofits today, some donors choose to give to community endowment funds that create lasting resources. These funds help ensure that support is available when needs arise and opportunities grow in the future.
