Lighting the Way for a Safer Community

Even the smallest improvements can make a big difference. At the Alcatraz Boat Launch on Pymatuning Lake, boaters often returned to shore after dark, guided only by moonlight. It was peaceful but risky.
With a grant from the Crawford Heritage Community Foundation’s Unrestricted Fund, the Pymatuning Lake Association installed a solar-powered light that illuminates the dock area. Now, the lake is safer for everyone who enjoys it.
“It may seem small, but it means everything to the people who use this dock,” said a member of the Association. “It gives families peace of mind and makes the lake safer at night.”
The project shows how local giving can brighten even the quietest corners of our community. One thoughtful gift has turned a dark spot into a beacon of safety and care.
