Discover how your Required Minimum Distribution can become an investment in the future of Crawford County.
As retirement approaches, many people begin taking Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) from their retirement accounts. While these distributions are required by law, they can also create an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community you love.
If you’re age 70½ or older, you may be eligible to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA. For many donors, it’s one of the simplest and most tax-efficient ways to support the charitable causes they care about while investing in the future of Crawford County.
What is a Qualified Charitable Distribution?
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows you to transfer money directly from your traditional IRA into an eligible charitable fund at Crawford Heritage Community Foundation. Whether you want to strengthen a nonprofit’s endowment, invest in local scholarships, support community needs, or create a lasting charitable legacy, we can help connect your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) to the charitable goals that matter most to you.
Instead of taking your RMD as taxable income, you may choose to direct some or all of those dollars into an eligible fund at the Foundation. When made directly from your IRA, a QCD generally is not included in your taxable income and can count toward satisfying your Required Minimum Distribution.
Depending on your charitable goals, your QCD may be used to:
- Support the Community Impact Fund, helping address Crawford County’s greatest needs.
- Add to an existing scholarship, designated, field of interest, or organizational endowment fund.
- Establish a new charitable fund that reflects your family’s values and creates a lasting legacy.
Rather than simply fulfilling a yearly requirement, your RMD can become an opportunity to create lasting impact in the community you call home.
Who Can Make a QCD?
You may qualify if you:
- Are at least age 70½.
- Have a traditional IRA.
- Want to support qualified charitable organizations.
- Are taking or will soon take, Required Minimum Distributions.
Because every financial situation is unique, it’s always best to discuss your options with your financial advisor or tax professional.
